Spotlight Music Students Win Tri-State Music Competition
Three students from Spotlight Music in Flemington were chosen as finalists in the “You Need Music” tri-state music competition for children and young adults. “You Need Music” is an organization that promotes the education and performance of the musical arts. Over 300 contestants from NJ, NY, and PA competed in either the Classical or Jazz divisions. Lucy Fisher and Catrina Goldsmith, both vocal students of Spotlight Music owner Lisa Zolnowski, competed in the voice division. Ms. Fisher performed “Willow Song”, a soprano aria from “The Ballad of Baby Doe”. Ms. Goldsmith performed the jazz classic “At Last”. Bonnie Cerra, a student of Spotlight Music faculty member Christi D’Amico, competed in the Classical piano division performing “Noturrno Op. 54” by Grieg.
All three Spotlight Music students scored high in their divisions and were awarded an opportunity to perform in the winners’ recital. This recital will consist of the top 25 voice, piano and violin contestants. The “You Need Music ” winners recital will be held in the 235-seat Jed Leshowitz Recital Hall at Montclair State University on May 23 at 2 P.M. Performances are open to the public.
